Jenni's Journey #2

Hi friends, as many of you know, my wife Jenni was diagnosed with ovarian cancer a few months ago. The only reason we knew she had cancer is because

1. She requested the BRCA 1 test from her doctor, and it came back positive for the BRCA 1 mutation gene.

2. Given this information, and knowing her family history with cancer, Jenni decided to get a preemptive hysterectomy. It was after the procedure the doctors discovered the cancer.

Ovarian cancer is virtually undetectable until you are in a later stage. There is no real screening process for it. Had Jenni not opted for the preemptive hysterectomy, we would not have discovered her cancer until stage 3 or 4.

Since the cancer was not discovered until after her hysterectomy, her doctor recommended an additional surgery to remove the omentum abdominal tissue (another likely hiding place for ovarian cancer) and have a biopsy performed on lymph nodes.

This procedure was not necessarily mandatory but would reduce the risk of any future spread. The knowledge gained through the lymph node biopsy would also tell us what stage she was in to assist with chemo treatments.

For this video I just wanted to bring everyone up to speed and share more of who my wonderful wife Jenni is. At the start of the video Jenni is out getting her hair cut shorter in preparation for the likely hair loss effects from chemo.
